Kevin - Tippmann Model 98If you dont feel like listening to a bunch of random ramblings that have nothing to do with the gun then skip down to the NOW After I got tired of my Joker(Spyder clone) I started looking into the paintball gun market again. My original plan was to just go for it and buy a Smart Parts Impulse (\\$425). However, my mom wouldn't let me because it cost too much. So instead I had to look back into the under $200 market. I thought about a used Nova, but decided no on that because they are co2 hogs and the company went out of business. Then I started looking at the M98's. They had a short trigger pull, a foregrip, and a fast rate of fire, for under $200. The more I thought about it the more serious I got about purchasing one. My freind had bought one in the summer when we had a job and he just
had to spend his money. So he bought a package, but he refused to play
with us because he thought we were all pros and would bunker him, untrue,
we are fairly newbie freindly (I had to change that from very to fairly
because of davids cousin). So anyways, he had this M98 that he wasn't
using. I asked if he would be willing to sell it, to my surprise he said
yes. However, he warned me about a problem recocking; I just figured it
was a broken o-ring or something. After taking it apart a couple times I found out I was missing the two bolts on the right side. I was going paintballing so I asked Little Springer if I could borrow his screws, he said yes. It worked great for a couple of hours, but then I took a shot and it didn't recock; the screws were gone. One of the workers showed me that they were stripped. Damn, I had to get a new valve. After finding time to call Tippmann I told them what happened and they sent me the stuff for free! A 40 dollar value. What a great company!
NOW to the gun. In weight it is fairly heavy, however the grips
feel very nice. When I first pulled the trigger I thought the saftey was
on. In comparison to my Joker it shoots like an Angel. The company claims
it can reach 11 balls a second. It has the shortest trigger pull, and
fastest rate of fire for a standard blowback. The cocking is on the side,
I dont really like this, but I can live with it. When it shoots it has
a noticable kick, this I don't mind either. The stock barrel is 8.5 inches.
However, it is more accurate than I thought it would be. This gun is very
reliable, I have never had a problem, other than the previously mentioned.
It works on co2 and nitrogen. If you get a ball break the hopper flips
down with a button, and makes it very easy to clean. However, in my experience
with it I havent had a ball break. To take the gun apart it requires 11 or so screws. It is a clamshell type gun (with two halves). It has a considerable amount of internal parts, but they are easy to understand where they go. And as I mentioned before you dont need to take it apart everytime. For upgrades there are more than you can shake the ugly stick that phils mom beats him with at. The newest models of the Model 98 have it so you can easily install an electric kit or a reactive trigger. Almost every upgrade you can think of they have for it. |
